01 Jan Kubiš´s Civilian Suit, 1942
Jan Kubis was dressed in a dark black suit during the attack on Heydrich, which he carried out with Josef Gabcik on 27 May 1942. It is probably a suit that is believed to have been made for Jan Kubis by his brother Rudolf, who ran a tailor’s salon in Trebic. The suit is made of dark grey woollen fabric with light grey stripes.
The single-breasted jacket is a typical example of pre-war men’s fashion. The wide, accentuated shoulders and pronounced waist make the wearer’s figure stand out. The lower part of the collar lapels overhang the upper part, which is more typical of double-breasted jackets today. There is a buttonhole on the left side of the lapel. The jacket is fastened with 3 Bakelite buttons, and there are two smaller buttons of identical style on the lower edges of the sleeves.
